Head of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
Most recently, Shernice Lazare served as the founding Director of Teaching and Learning at the New School of San Francisco, a diverse by design and inquiry-based charter school for eight years. Prior to founding New School, Ms. Lazare was a Demonstration Teacher and Outreach Coordinator at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Lab School and Lecturer for the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA for 10 years. She started her career as an elementary school teacher in the Santa Monica Malibu School District where she taught Kindergarten – 6th grades for over 8 years. She received her BA from Emerson College in Boston and holds two Master’s degrees from UCLA and Cal State University, Northridge (CSUN) in Urban Education and Education Administration, respectively. Ms. Lazare is a strong believer and advocate for quality education for all students, especially those who have been historically underrepresented and under supported in schools. She cares deeply about good teaching and learning and believes in its power to transform outcomes for individuals and whole communities. She is the proud mom of Ella, a CWC graduate and is thrilled to be coming back to the CWC LA family to lead the charge of CWC LA’s DEI strategic plan in living out their mission and vision and ensuring all students, staff and families feel a sense of belonging.
