Lottery Info for the 2018-2019 School Year
Here is how the lottery works:
You must complete and submit your application form to Citizens of the World Hollywood by our application deadline in order for your child to be included in the lottery. Interest forms received after the deadline will be held for a subsequent lottery (if necessary). This form does not guarantee your child’s enrollment in this school. Please note that timely submission of all paperwork, including proof of address, will be required if your child is selected for enrollment.
If the number of students who wish to attend CWC Hollywood exceeds the number of seats available, students are admitted by random public drawing (also known as a lottery) in accordance with Education Code §47605(d)(2).
Per our CWC Hollywood charter, the following preferences shall be given in the lottery:
- Students residing within the boundaries of the Los Angeles Unified School District. CWCH provides a weighted preference (2:1) for in district applicants residing within LAUSD boundaries.
- Siblings of students currently enrolled at CWC Hollywood. Siblings are defined as any two students who share a legal parent / guardian.
- Children of the Founding Parents of CWC Hollywood (not to exceed 10% of total enrollment).*
- Students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch (for more information, visit http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/nu/rs/scales1415.asp).
*(CWCH is no longer accepting Founding Parents. These were established prior to the founding of our school in 2009-2010.)
Please note that if you are extended an offer for enrollment through one of the preference above, you will need to provide supporting documentation in the enrollment packet to accept the enrollment offer. A verification of this will be done prior to finalizing your child’s enrollment. If your child was offered enrollment via a preference and CWC Hollywood deems that the child does not qualify, your child will be placed on the waiting list.
Within two weeks of the lottery, families will be contacted via email or letter in the mail with lottery results, including waitlist number (if applicable). Those families will have 2 weeks to respond and accept or turn down the space offered. Any spaces that become available will be offered to the next family on the waiting list until the class is full. Be advised that the time to respond and accept or turn down a space offered ranges from 2 weeks for the first round of accepted applicants (immediately after the lottery) and reduces to 72 hours for subsequent rounds and then 24 hours when the start of school approaches (after August 1st).
Other Important Information
What is the minimum age for admittance to kindergarten in California?
In accordance with California Education code, a child needs to be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2017, for entry into Kindergarten. CWC Hollywood provides transitional kindergarten to children turning 5 years old between September 2nd and December 2nd only. Can I apply to other Citizens of the World schools?
Citizens of the World Hollywood (CWC H) coordinates its enrollment efforts for its own school site. To apply to other Citizens of the World Charter school locations, families will be required to complete a separate application at each school.
