4th Grade Teaching Associate
Lizza Mahoney is excited and honored to join the CWC Hollywood team as a 4th grade Teacher’s Associate! She has recently transitioned to Los Angeles from Phoenix, Arizona, where she grew up. Lizza completed her undergraduate degree at Arizona State University, where she earned her B.S. in Family & Human Development, with minor concentrations in Women’s Studies and Sociology. While there, Lizza worked as a tutor for K-8 English Language Learners, and as a pre-school teacher’s assistant. It was during this time when Lizza developed a passion for teaching and elementary education. These experiences are what drove her to join Teach for America, in which she taught 1st grade for two years at Maryvale Preparatory Academy in Phoenix. While teaching full time, Lizza also returned to Arizona State University and earned her Master’s in Elementary Education.
Lizza believes that all children deserve a quality education, regardless of circumstance. Her favorite part of this challenging yet wonderful work is witnessing the tremendous amount of growth students make within a short amount of time – cognitively, socially, and emotionally. CWC’s celebration of diversity and cultivation of each child’s unique strengths are what drew her to the organization, and she is thrilled to participate in their mission. Outside of the classroom, Lizza can be found exploring fun places in L.A., trying out new restaurants, and laying out on the beach with a good book in hand. She also enjoys yoga, coffee, and spending time with her husband and family.
