Katy Buckner is thrilled to be a member of the CWC community! Growing up in Northern California, Katy attended public schools in the Napa Valley and developed a passion for education while she was still in high school, volunteering daily as a kindergarten teacher’s aide. From there, she went on to obtain her BA in Communication Studies with a minor in Peace Studies from Loyola Marymount University, and continued with the university for a subsequent two years, resulting in her MA in Elementary Education and her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. After five years of working as a classroom aide in public, charter, and magnet elementary schools, Miss Buckner taught for nine years in Los Angeles-area private schools before joining CWC’s team in 2017.
Cultivating educational equity, embracing diversity, implementing innovative pedagogy, promoting critical thinking, and fostering an engaging learning environment are of the utmost importance to Miss Buckner. When she is not in the classroom, she loves to take advantage of all that Los Angeles has to offer: Terrific restaurants, beautiful beaches, various volunteer opportunities, thrilling theme parks, and exciting live events. A voracious reader, she can most frequently be found with a good book in her hand. She believes that film and literature are tantamount to developing empathy and understanding the world around us. Katy is happiest when traveling the world, a passion that was ignited by studying abroad in Spain during her college years (at which time she taught English to Spanish-speaking adults taking a night class). Miss Buckner is literate in Spanish.
